  1. Thank you very much for this elaborate and informative post, I had personally never heard of this place and it looks so beautiful.
This reminds me of the mansions in Chettinad in Tamil Nadu. Similar condition of the once affluent houseolds, now are let ignored and not maintained. Such heritage structures!

All the best to explore more and will look forward for more of your posts!

    With regards,
    Hitha.

    1. Wealth wasn’t coming here, rather was going out from the ports of Bengal to Dundee and Glasgow in England, otherwise Bengal won’t get the chain of man made famines and Millions die of hunger. The Land lords (Zemindars) were pretty much loyalists to the Company Rule and chose over the Islamic rule of the Nawab (allied with the French) and thus had their fair share of Wealth.

  2. Hello Subhadip! Tejashree here from Mumbai. Thank you for sharing this detailed article about Dhanyakuria. I am an architect and during my first year architecture we had documented and created hand made drawings for Ballabh Bari and Nautch Ghar. Unfortunately I couldn’t be a part of the site team back then and hence I’m planning to visit this place in December 2023. I would like to know if you can connect me to someone who can show me around in the town and help with permissions for the restricted areas. If you know anyone from the families who still own some of these structures, I can connect with them and get assistance to be accompanied. I plan a day visit and it will be great to learn about the town with someone who might have some knowledge about architecture or history of the town. Do let me know if you can give any leads. Thank you!
