It was for the very first time that I was traveling with my family which included our two-year-old daughter on a long trip. To be precise for 7 days we wished to cover Rajasthan as much as possible. Due to our work schedule along 10 – 15 days complete Rajasthan tour was an impossible feat which we cannot even think of so we decided to split our Rajasthan adventure into sections. The biggest chunk of holidays that we the people from Kolkata would normally get is during Durga Puja where the city comes to stand still and the whole city is in a party mood. The streets become choked and the best possible means of transportation would be to use your legs to travel from one place to another. So it’s quite common for people to actually go on a vacation during this period and the same applies to me.

I had visited Jodhpur as a part of my grand trip of Rajasthan covering Jaipur -> Ajmer – Pushkar -> Jaisalmer -> Jodhpur. In my previous blog, I have already shown you the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort so in this blog I will take you to some of the other tourist attractions in the city.

It was our last day in Jaisalmer and I had already started missing it, there were few more places that I wanted to visit but the shortage of time meant that I had to go to my next destination and perhaps one day come back again. My visit to Jaisalmer was part of my grand Rajasthan tour covering Jaipur -> Ajmer – Pushkar -> Jaisalmer -> Jodhpur.
My train to Jodhpur was scheduled in the late evening and I had a good time from morning to evening. Initially, I wanted to visit Desert National Park and was discussing the travel arrangements with the hotel owner and suddenly he popped up the idea of visiting Longewala.

The very reason I went to a long Rajasthan vacation along with my family was for the sole purpose of visiting Jaisalmer. The famous Jaisalmer Fort or I should say Sonar Kella according to most Bengalis have forever etched a mark in our mind and the main reason for this is Satyajit Ray. If you are not a Bengali you will not understand the reason why so I would request you to see the famous sleuth classic Sonar Kella.
Jaisalmer is the extreme western part of India whereas I belong to Kolkata which is the easternmost part of the country. Considering the fact that I had my toddler daughter with me I avoided long distance train and thus planned my journey with breaks. My plan was Jaipur -> Ajmer – Pushkar -> Jaisalmer -> Jodhpur, I have already blogged about the first two stops thus this blog is dedicated to Jaisalmer fort only. There are more tourist attractions in this town but I will write about them in my next blog.

The first planned vacation that I took with my family that is with my wife and daughter together was to a long tour of Rajasthan. I had planned this long vacation during Durga Puja since that is the only time I get a really long vacation from office. Unlike any other vacations that I had taken with my wife or as a solo traveller this was a bit different since I had my three-year-old daughter with me. Considering her age I had to plan my vacation such that she gets good rest between my hops through the different towns.
I had planned to visit Jaipur -> Ajmer – Pushkar -> Jaisalmer -> Jodhpur for this trip. I had purposely skipped some of the other important towns since I wanted to give enough time at every location rather than hurrying from one to the other. Places like Udaipur, Mount Abu, Bikaner etc. was planned to be covered at a later stage when my daughter would grow up a bit to enjoy these places.
