Valentine’s Day during school years was fun, with zero possibility of a girlfriend me and my buddies used to eagerly wait for this day just to see the fun that would unravel in front of our eyes. There were always senior boys in class (most of the time failures or repeaters) who would be the friend, philosopher and guide to us. They would weave stories up in the air just to prove that he was the guy which we all should envy on Valentine’s Day.
Notable was one particular guy with a distinct grin on his face a haircut similar to Rahul Roy (If you don’t know who he is then please Google it), he would always be the Valentine Guru for us. The reality was always far from that, on Valentine’s Day invariably I would see him wait outside the girl’s school gate with a greetings card and a rose in hand. After waiting and waiting finally the girl of his dream would be coming out and his face would lit up. Things stopped here actually, the girl for sure would ignore him and walk past without even looking at him our dear friend would continue to run behind her begging her to accept the card and the flower. After chasing for some 100 meters the girl would invariably accept the card tear it into pieces and throw.
This rejection did not have any effect on him his next attempt would be to hand over the rose to her thus another chase would start. With no other option, the girl would accept the rose and repeat the same thing what she had done to the card.
Those were the wonderful school days, things have drastically changed now and all over the city celebrations of Valentine’s Day can be felt a week before. From cafes to sweet shops all have decorated their stores with red hearts and red balloons just to celebrate the day of love. Surprisingly this was something unheard of a few years back.
People have now started celebrating Valentine’s Day as a part of the annual festival calendar. Chocolates and roses sell the most on this day as roses are something you gift to a person you love and chocolate symbolises sweetness. This year I had the privilege to attend a food launch party organised by Wow Momo. This organisation is a start-up from the city of Kolkata who made eating Momo’s a little more than just love of the taste but into a restaurant chain that specialises in creating new variants of the classic.
Chocolate Momo
For Valentine’s Day, they have introduced a Rose Shaped Chocolate Momo and it’s just yum. They have taken the concept of chocolate momo to a next level by creating a festival specific dish that is light on the wallet as well as good to taste. The combination of quality and taste makes this a perfect dish for your Valentine. The momo’s have a filling of a combination of white and dark chocolate creating a perfect balance which is placed in chocolate sauce dip. What is different is that the momo’s are in shape of red roses giving it a perfect look for Valentine’s Day. So when you are with your loved one sharing this momo you are having chocolate as well as having a rose. The red colour comes from food grade colour which is safe and gives the perfect look of a red rose.
If you are really hungry for love… I mean just hungry then do try their Sizzler Momos, it’s like the best of sizzler with the best of momo. It’s a perfect dish to satisfy your hunger as the portion is quite substantial and a perfect sharing platter for you and your Valentine.
The highlight of the evening, however, was the meeting that I managed to have with Sagar Daryani one of the co-founders of Wow Momo. The meeting was just by chance as I had some time to kill and was busy enjoying my cup of soda when I happen to have a chance to talk to him. Wow Momo is like a start-up success story from Kolkata and with its massive and quick expansion, it is slowly becoming one of the top food chains in the country. They have already opened more than a hundred stores across most of the Indian states and with a plan to cover the rest of India as well as venture into the Middle East this food chain is giving serious competition to international food chains also.
Out of all the conversation that we had what struck me most was when I asked him about failures when it comes to a particular menu item or a particular variety to which he replied “There are always failures but the key to success is to learn, correct and improve yourselves rather than to just focus on what went wrong it is wise to focus on correcting it”. This is what the secret mantra is to the success of Wow Momo, wishing them all the very best for a good business on Valentine’s Day and also wishing all my readers a day full of love and good memories.
And before I forget did I not tell you that the boy from my school is a happily married father of two now and guess what after all that girl did accept the rose and the card. Not that day but his persistence paid off in the future.
