Baking with Love
When something is done from the heart it really shows and this is exactly what I found at Sweta’s Bakes. You really don’t need a big showroom and a gigantic kitchen to deliver mouth-watering cakes and bakes, what you just need is a heart full of passion and a mind full of dedication.
When I was invited to Sweta’s Bakes for a tasting session I expected some small muffins and some side dishes but I was completely wrong. Operating from a small kitchen within an apartment at Highland Park Sweta bakes some of the tastiest cakes that I have ever tasted. Fluffy, soft, creamy, delicious etc. are just some of the words that best describes her work of art.
Having a passion for cooking and paintings she managed to fuse the both and create an art out of food. The habit of painting on canvas gave her the edge when it came to designing her cakes, it was all a piece of art in itself. From Barbie to apple to angry birds to teddies the designer cakes were a visual treat. Decorated perfectly these look good and tastes even better.
Assisting Sweta are her two little angle daughters, both in school but love to help their mama in kitchen. The elder one also has an aspiration to become a food critique and she is practising it first on her mom’s dishes. Amongst all this there is a constant support from Sweta’s husband Abhishek, they soon plan to expand to a bigger kitchen and to do that first they plan to hire a small place for doing all the baking and adding a showroom soon to display all the products.
First we were served the classic Blue Lagoon which was really refreshing, this was followed by Blueberry Muffins, Chocolate Tarts and Strawberry Tarts. The muffins were soft and yummy, with bits of blueberry which melted instantly in the mouth. Chocolate Tarts were very chocolaty but the Strawberry Tarts were absolutely out of the world, these were soft like cotton and just oozed with cream and strawberry jam.
It was now time for the big boys and we were first served Red Velvet. This was the marquee dish of the evening,it was appreciated by all. The white cream filling in between made it ligt and soft. All the items that were served were very moderately sweetened thus was easy to have more servings. This according to Sweta is her speciality which enables her customer to enjoy her products more.
Next we were served Vegetable Spring Rolls with schezwan sauce, this was a good change from the sweet dishes that we were serves previously. Crunchy and spicy these were a perfect evening snacks and a single serving is never enough, you have to have a couple of them.
This was followed by another classic English Plain Tea Cake, these being my all-time favourite was irresistible. Next was the Kiwi Cake, I must confess here that I ate the kiwi toppings first as I simply love them.
By now I was completely full but could not stop gulping down few of the Chicken Quiche. These goes very well in any ocassions and trust me taste them when they are sligt warm, it adds up to the taste. The last sweet dish for the evening was Chocolate Trufle Cake, this being the king of all cakes deserved to be served last as being a chocolate cake it makes your tummy full very quickly.
The last item for the evening was Chicken Chilly, these lil ones served with capsicum and onions were the icing on the cake. Even though there was not an inch space left in my tummy I could not resist at least having few of them.
This was not all for the day, before leaving we were given a box of homemade Chocolates and a box full of goodies with had a Chocolate Brownie, Plum Cakes and muffins. Sweta and her family were the perfect host that evening and I wish her and her business all the very success in the future.
