Calcutta – 1951
Few friends who were body builders decided to start a Kali Puja and on the grounds of Dey’s Medical factory. It was more like a suburban fair with a mini circus, magic shops, well of death motorcycle stunts etc. Then after few years of celebration the puja venue had to be moved since new industrial reforms were starting in the city and this ground was selected for the Dey’s Medical factory. Seeing this the organizers decided to shift the venue to somewhere else.
During this shift, however, the puja split into three different groups, one made their pandal just opposite to the old venue, another group shifted to Ballygunge Phari and a third group shifted to Christian Para (Para means locality in Bengali). As the name suggest Christian Para is a small locality where a handful of Christians lived and the main reason why it was called a Christian Para was that there was a small Church built by that small Christian community.

My city of Calcutta (Kolkata) has seen many heritage walks and heritage bus tours but on 16th of October 2016, I myself and this old city of mine witnessed something for the very first time. Oxford Bookstore one of the city’s heritage landmark and also a bookstore arranged the first ever Literary Heritage Bus Tour along with Patra Bharati under the banner of Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob. LetUsGo was the Heritage Tour partner for the festival providing vital infrastructure making this a truly comfortable bus tour.
This is the second year of Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob and this year a special bus tour was organised for selected bloggers and the press media who were taken on a tour of city’s literary landmarks.

“Hello, Didi is that you? Can you hear me clearly? Am I audible? Is it snowing out there? Did you make a snowman?” I had more questions before my elder sister could ever open her mouth. This was in the year 1998 and my sister was studying in Switzerland. Those were the days of ISD telephone calls which were very expensive and top of it all was pretty complicated with delayed voice and often disconnections. She would, later on, tell me stories about Zurich, Bern, Bossey etc.
I was fascinated about Switzerland and forever dreamed of feeling the soft snow kissing my face as they fall from the heavens above on a cold wintery night with a snowman winking at me.

I am not a dedicated food blogger and my primary focus is on travel blogging and when you are an avid traveller and blogger it is bound that you start writing about the local cuisine also. Thus you can say that food blogging has become a part of my blogging adventure.
I have never been to any food blogging workshop and all my knowledge about food blogging was completely based on friendly advice from fellow food bloggers. When Zomato and Social Bong was conducting a special Food Blogging Workshop and I was specially invited to join the workshop as a guest it was something that I still find myself privileged.

“How about starting our own magazine” declared my sister, my cousin brother nodded to the thought and I jumped into the air sensing some sort of activity regardless of what it actually was. Being kids of the 80’s our access to television was limited and obviously, Internet was something from the James Bond movies thus most of the leisure free time was used in thinking and executing all sorts of obnoxious plans. Be it a sports club with exclusive access to cousins and family members even though it was housed in the godown originally meant to store coal for the house or starting our own private library in the same godown with our limited stock of Tinkle and Tintin comics we always wanted to form a group of like-minded people where we could share some quality time and in the process have a great fun.

It was in the year 1997 and somehow huffing and puffing me and my friends managed to pass our 10th board exam. So precarious was our situation that our parents were not concerned which division or ranking we would secure instead they were more worried about if in the first place we will manage to pass our boards or not. Before going ahead let me describe each of my friends, for ethical reasons I am changing all their names but trust me all of them are real.
